Craven Community College

Craven Community College, located in New Bern, North Carolina, is a public two year institution founded in 1968, though the elements of the school began earlier through the Lenoir Community College's Craven Industrial Education unit. At its founding the school had a total enrollment of 700 students, which has grown to nearly 4000 full time students and 25,000 continuing education students today. The school is one of the 58 schools that comprise the North Carolina College System.

Academics

Craven Community College offers programs that result in certificates, diplomas or degrees. The programs are either for transfer or career training. Career training programs prepare individuals by developing the skills and providing the knowledge necessary to obtain work after graduation. Program length varies based on the program, with certificate and diploma programs taking less time than a two year degree. Transfer programs prepare students to enter four year institutions while providing the first two years of a four year education, allowing for ease of transfer with school that have agreements in place with Craven Community College.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Craven Community College has an open door policy in regards to admissions, allowing students with a high school diploma or equivalent to be admitted. Students in may submit an application or through mail and must provide all pertinent transcripts. A placement test will also be administered to determine the level of courses initially taken. Students are encouraged to participate in orientation and visit a counselor for assistance.

Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans and work study programs. Individuals in need of aid must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility and awards. Scholarships are also available, typically requiring  separate applications to the bodies that oversee the scholarship, and may be awarded for reasons other than need.
