About
Los Angeles City College, located in Los Angeles, California, was founded in 1927 when it was known as Los Angeles Junior College. LACC has gone through a variety of governing bodies, starting with the Los Angeles Secondary School District, followed by the Los Angeles Junior College District, the Los Unified School District and finally the Los Angeles Community College District, which is comprised of nine schools located throughout Los Angeles County. Los Angeles City College is located in the Hollywood portion of Los Angeles, and is easily accessible through the city's public transportation system, including a nearby Metro Station for convenience. The school has a large number of programs, but is well known for its film program which is considered among the best among two year institutions.

Academics
Los Angeles City College offers a large number of programs, allowing students to choose the career or academic program that best suits their future goals. Career programs provide training and education in a given field, allowing students to specialize in that area and perform the duties and tasks associated with that career. Students will take between one and two years to complete a program, earning a certificate or diploma that demonstrates competency and allows entry into the workforce as a qualified professional.

Academic transfer is accomplished by completing the necessary units normally taken during the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education. Upon completion, students will apply to a four year institution to continue their education and earn a bachelor's degree. Transfer agreements are in place with the University of California and California State University Systems which guarantee admission if certain academic criteria are met. Students applying to other schools should meet with a counselor to develop a curriculum that best suits the student's desired school or school's transfer requirements.

Programs offered include:

Admissions and Financial Aid
As an open enrollment institution, any students that have earned a high school diploma or equivalent, or are at least 18 years of age will be admitted upon submission of the application for admission. Transcripts and standardized test scores should also be submitted and a placement exam may be required prior to registration. New students are encouraged to participate in orientation and meet with a counselor to plan their curriculum and discuss program enrollment. Registration takes place shortly before the start of each semester with fees due thereafter.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which will be used to determine financial need, program eligibility and monetary awards. California residents may also be eligible for CalGrants awarded for academic excellence. Financial aid should be applied for prior to posted deadlines, and must be reapplied for at the start of each academic year. Students may be asked to provide the financial aid office with additional documentation to ensure the FAFSA is accurate prior to the disbursement of funds.

Athletics
Los Angeles City College offers a number of athletic programs, encouraging students to participate to grow socially, academically, and personally. Athletic programs provide a forum for healthy competition and assist in the development of useful skills, such as discipline, teamwork and good health. Students will find camaraderie with peers in pursuit of a unified goal, experiencing success and failure together. Students interested in participating in athletic programs should contact the athletic department in order to obtain tryout dates and the appropriate forms.
