History

Montreat College was founded in 1916 in Montreat, North Carolina. The school is a Christian college in the Presbyterian tradition, and stresses academic and religious importance. The school was originally formed as a retreat so that Christians has a place to worship freely, though that changes when it was proposed that the grounds and facilities should be used as a school during the academic year. Currently the school operates four campuses, the main campus in Montreat, a secondary campus in Black Mountain and adult studies campuses in Asheville and Charlotte.

Montreat College offers a variety of undergraduate programs along with associate degree programs. Masters programs are available at the adult studies campus. Montreat College prides itself on academic excellence.

Admission to Montreat College is determined based on academics, potential, personality, motivation, integrity, and leadership ability. All applications are reviewed with those criteria in mind with a final interview with the director of admissions necessary for approval.
