Washburn Institute of Technology

Also known as Washburn Tech

100 E. Claflin Ave., Salina, KS

Located in Topeka, Kansas, the Washburn Institute of Technology (WIT) can be found in one of the larger cities in the southern mid-west region, a city which is also the capital of the entire state. The population of Topeka is 127,473, and the city is well known for its popular and effective public school systems. There are plenty of arts and culture points in the city as well, as it was the location of the legendary US Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education, making segregation illegal in the United States.

In 2012, the Washburn Institute of Technology charged $4,108 for tuition and had enrollment of just over 900 students. With a retention rate of 83%, WIT is very successful at keeping its students through graduation and helping them find high quality jobs. As a vocational school for adults, it helps to offer plenty of technical degrees that are of use in the local economy. Here is a list of offered programs:

  • Construction
  • Health Care
  • Human Services
  • Technology
  • Transportation

These programs help provide students with valuable technical skills that eventually lead to employment in the area for most graduates. Enrollment is open, and to be fully admitted you first have to pass an entrance exam and complete an admissions interview. WIT is a great option for those living in Topeka who want to jump start their careers in tech fields.
