Aspen University is a private, distance learning institution that was founded in 1987.  The genesis of the university can be followed back to the 1960’s as the school was originally known as the International Academy.

Fast forward to 1987 when the school changed its name to the ISM University focusing primarily on information technologies.  In 2003, the school changed its name to Aspen University (AU) and is currently based in Denver, Colorado.

Aspen University is nationally accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DECA).  Both baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in nursing at Aspen University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).   Additionally, the school’s programs in Psychology of Addiction and Counseling have been approved by the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC).

Aspen University is comprised of four main school domains that include the following areas of study:

  1. School of Professional Studies
  2. School of Education
  3. School of Nursing
  4. School of Business and Technology

Degree levels include a full suite of programs at AU that rival large, traditional institutions.  Degrees include certificate programs, associate degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, and doctoral degree programs.
