Excelsior College is our country’s first virtual university and was originally founded by the New York State Board of Regents in 1971 known at the time as the Regents External Degree Program (REX) through funding from the Ford Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation.

In 1986, the school changed its name to Regents College and was issued a charter to operate as an independent, private, non-profit college.  In 2001, the school changed its name to Excelsior College to which it is known today.

Excelsior College includes a student body in excess of 40,000 students with an average age of 37.  According to the school, approximately 75% of students attend full-time with 40% of students active or former military members.

Programs offered at Excelsior College include an array of programs that include: nursing, business, RN to bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN to Master of Science in Nursing, liberal arts, criminal justice, health science, cybersecurity, healthcare management, information technology, technology management, nuclear engineering technology, management, accounting, and electrical engineering technology.

The admission's team at Excelsior College have streamlined the on-boarding process into three simple steps.  With simplicity in mind, students can more easily navigate the admissions process and determine if the school is a great fit or not.  Steps in the process include:

  1. Meet with your admissions counselor to establish your academic and professional goals
  2. Apply online and enroll in applicable programs
  3. Connect with your academic advisor and sign up for class

Finances can be a real or perceived barrier to entry for many students.  Thus Excelsior College has created a process to help students understand their financing options and financial aid paths.  Qualifying students start by completing a FAFSA form which is a federal form that compiles information to determine federal financial aid.

EC has school-specific scholarships, tuition discounts for partner organizations, interest free tuition payment plans, grants, reduced rates for active-duty military members, and student loan alternatives.  To determine how much school will cost for you, reach out to an admissions advisor or utilize the school's net price calculator.

Visit the school’s website for more information on programs offered and consumer disclosures at www.excelsior.edu or request information here to start the process.
