A medical insurance biller is a trained professional that couples the demands of medical insurance with administrative support within a healthcare organization.  A medical billing specialist will be tasked to process insurance claims and follow up on active claims after being sent to a health insurance company for services rendered.

Medical billing and coding are not the same job despite their similar names.  Medical insurance billers manage the flow of the billing statements, while a medical insurance coding specialist is tasked with the responsibility to capture a patient’s story by using the correct codes to create a specific narrative for each person.  In order for the proper reimbursement to be issued in a timely fashion, these codes must be entered in a manner that is specific as possible.

About
Assumption College is a Catholic post secondary institution founded in 1904 and located in Worcester, Massachusetts. When first established the school was dedicated to educating French immigrants and residents to become leaders in their New England communities. During World War II the school suffered a massive decline in enrollment due to nearly all students enlisting in the military. The school was kept afloat financially through increased enrollment in the preparatory school it operated. In 1952 a graduate school was added to Assumption COllege and in that same year the school was struck by a tornado. As a result, Assumption College took the opportunity to separate the college from the preparatory school and move to its Worcester location. Since that time the school has seen growth both in its facilities and enrollment, currently serving nearly 3000 student a year.

Academics
Assumption College offers over 40 undergraduate programs and 5 graduate programs. These programs are fully accredited and provide students with a high quality education in their field of study. Undergraduate programs may be augmented through minor studies programs, allowing students to pursue a secondary education in a separate interest or in a field that augments their major. Graduate programs require a bachelor degree in order to be enrolled and provide students with a more in depth education in that particular field. Tuition and fees for the Surgical Technology Program as of January 10, 2013 were approximately$32,600.  ACH reported a 73% placement rate for program graduates.  Cost of the Pharmacy Technician Program was about $16,500 with a 75% placement rate.  The other programs had placement rates ranging from the 80% range to 100% for the Medical Administrative Assistant Program.

Davenport University, located in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, was founded in 1866 by Conrad G. Swensburg, a union veteran of the civil war. The school was known as the Grand Rapids Business College, but went through a number of name and located changes over the next five decades. By 1910 the school was set to close its doors due to waning interest and financial difficulty, and saved through the efforts of a new teacher by the name of Michael E. Davenport. Mr. Davenport rounded up the remaining members of faculty, managed to keep the school open, and over nearly three decades operated the school as president and oversaw a turnaround of the schools educational offerings. Since that time the school has several presidents, each contributing to the expansion and refinement of the schools offers. In  the late 1970's the school became a university, and began offering a number of bachelor degree programs in the 1980's, and master degree programs in the 1990's.
