Columbia Southern University, headquartered in Orange Beach, Alabama, was founded in 1993 by Dr. Robert G. Mayes Sr., who remained president of the school until his death in 2005. The school provides online degree programs, and has expanded its program offerings since its foundation. The school is designed to meet the scheduling demands of its students, allowing for familial and work obligations to be fulfilled while pursuing a degree. The school is accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), which is a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
