Spartanburg Methodist College

Spartanburg Methodist College, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was founded in 1911 as Textile Industrial Institute by Dr. David English Camak, a Methodist minister. The school began offering liberal arts associate degrees in 1927, allowing for transfer to four year schools. Over the next few years the school expanded its associate degree offerings to provide technical and career educations.
By 1940 the high school courses were removed and in 1942 the school changed its name to Spartanburg Community College. Over the next 30 years the school experienced a surge of growth, expanding the campus size by a large amount. By 1974 the school changed its name to the current, reflecting the education and opportunities provided. Today the school serves a diverse student body offering programs for traditional and non-traditional students.
Academics
Spartanburg Methodist College provides associate degree programs in a small number of fields. These programs provide either career or academic opportunities. Career programs prepare individuals for entry into the workforce, having provided the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen field. Academic programs are designed to fulfill the first two years of a four year education, allowing for transfer to a four year institution upon graduation.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Students interested in enrollment should complete and submit an application. Once received, the application will be reviewed and the student will be notified if he or she is admitted and a package sent that must be completed and returned. An academic orientation is mandatory for all freshman students. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans and scholarships.
