Galen College of Nursing – Cincinnati
9740 Near Drive, Cincinnati, OH
Galen College of Nursing claims to be one of the largest private nursing education centers in the US with locations in Cincinnati Ohio, Louisville Kentucky (main campus), Tampa Bay Florida, and San Antonio. Texas.
Unlike some other educational centers that offer programs in allied health fields, Galen’s sole focus is nursing education. The Cincinnati campus features a two-year Associate Degree in Nursing program (AND), and a program to assist LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurses) move up to Registered Nurse (RN) status. The LPN bridge program allows online study for much of the required coursework. This program can be completed in 18 months. Tuition per credit hour as of January 1, 2014 is $325 with roughly $3,000 in additional fees covering books, uniforms, testing, and so on.
Galen nursing programs have three core components – theory, laboratory, and clinical. The school provides clinical simulation in a learning laboratory set up just like a hospital, only the patients are life-like models along the lines of a crash dummy, called human simulators. This feature is a great benefit for anyone a little nervous about “practicing” on live humans. Real-world clinical experience comes from participating hospitals, clinics, and health centers in the Greater Cincinnati area. This experience is inclusive, allowing students to interact not only with patients, but also with patient families and medical practitioners at the clinical site. All clinical experiences come under direct supervision of a Galen faculty member.
Galen began providing nursing education more than 20 years ago and today serves more than 3,000 students across its four campuses.
