Illinois Central College (ICC)
1312 N Park St, Bloomington, IL
Illinois Central College (ICC) believes in changing the world through learning that changes minds. Their ambitious philosophy is reflected in the many learning opportunities they offer – not just for those looking for transfer programs for four-year courses, but also to the community at large. Their strong community ties are also reflected in the way the college was formed. In 1966, the citizens of Central Illinois voted to create the college; the very first year, it enrolled an impressive 2,946 students the following year. Today, their annual student enrollment figures regularly break the 13,000 barrier, and nearly 1,500 degrees and certificates are awarded yearly.
ICC is truly a community-serving college: in total, it serves 44 high schools over a 2,322 square mile area; the ICC Education Foundation awards approximately $350,000 worth of scholarships each year; tuition waivers are granted by the college to the tune of $1 million annually; not least of its merits, ICC has touched over 400,000 lives since its inception.
In times past, ICC was part of the regular re-accreditation process, which took several years to complete. In 2002, it was awarded the maximum 10-year re-accreditation. Currently, it is a part of the Academic Quality Improvement Program, or AQIP, an accreditation program of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association; the program involves the college selecting four action projects that are periodically monitored and reported on.
ICC offers a robust portfolio of technical and academic programs, some of which can be transferred to a four-year degree program at other universities.
