Union Institute and University, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, began as a consortium between ten colleges to explore non traditional forms of teaching. The consortium became the Union of Research and Experimenting Colleges and Universities in 1969. By 1972 the school received accreditation by the Commission on Institutions of High Education of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and received degree granting status by the Ohio Board of Regents. The school changed its name to the current in 1985. Currently the school enrolls approximately 2000 students per year and has over 15,000 alumni throughout the world.
Academics
Union Institute and University challenges students by providing an interdisciplinary education model that forces students to placer studies in a relevant context, utilizing analyses and critical thinking. Undergraduate and graduate programs are available, with undergraduate programs being broken down into Bachelor of Arts concentrations and Bachelor of Science majors. Individuals will be provided with a unique educational experience, developed over time and based on German and British methods. The emphasis on student learning is unique, and is core to the education offered.

Admission and Financial Aid
Students interested in enrolling at Union Institute and University must be a high school graduate or have a GED. Students must complete the application which will be reviewed and used to determine admission to the school. Students will also take placement exams and be required to submit all relevant documents, such as transcripts. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans, scholarships and work study programs.
