About
Western Nebraska Community College, located in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, was established in 1926 when it was known as Scottsbluff Junior College. The school was closed temporarily after its first year, resuming operation in 1929 through its adoption by the Scottsbluff Public Schools System, and operated as part of that system until 1932 when it became a public two year institution. The school became known as Scotts Bluff County College, followed by another name change in 1968 to Nebraska Western College. In 1973 the state established the Western Technical Community College Area that was comprised of 3 institutions: Nebraska Western College, Western Nebraska Technical College and Alliance School of Practical Nursing. In 1978 the schools were merged into a single entity and in 1988 removed the separate campus names in favor of Western Nebraska Community College.
