Antelope Valley College, located in Lancaster, California, was founded in 1929 as part of the Antelope Valley High School as a junior college to provide the first two years of a college education. The college suffered from low attendance for most of the great depression and into World War II, until the return of veterans and a burgeoning aircraft industry saved the school from closure. Today the number of students has increased from the low of 13 in 1939 to nearly 16,000 a year. The school has also expanded its offerings, providing over 70 programs through is multiple campuses.
