Paralegal Program

Athens Technical College, located in Athens Georgia, was founded in 1958 when it was first known as the Athens Area Vocational-Technical School. The school was renamed in 1987 to Athens Area Technical Institute as part of its expanding role in the community. The current name was adopted in 2000, and was chosen because of the school's ability to issue associate degrees alongside more traditional technical certificates and diplomas. The school is one of the 25 that comprise the Technical College System of Georgia, a statewide system of colleges dedicated to promoting workforce development throughout the various counties of the state. ATC operates several campuses in a number of areas, including Elberton, Monroe, and Greensboro.

Education

Students of Athens Technical College will be able to choose from a large number of programs that allow for the development of pertinent skills to ones desired field of employment. Programs are divided into one of three areas, business and public service, technical and industrial and life sciences. These programs are designed to impart theoretical and practical education, introducing and educating students in the techniques and methods used for the completion of specialized tasks and how they are applied to a real world setting. Some programs will utilize controlled environments to allow students better develop their skills, resulting in experience useful when pursuing employment. Most programs take between one and two years to complete, and result in a diploma, certificate or degree that demonstrates competency in the area studies and allows for the pursuit of job opportunities at the entry level with ease. Students interested in continuing their education may transfer some of their credits to schools within the University System of Georgia.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Athens Technical College is a public two year institution that maintains an open enrollment policy, allowing any students that wishes to enroll to do so through the completion of the application for admission, supplying of previous transcripts, the taking of a placement exam which may be bypassed through the submission of previously taken standardized test scores, the payment of tuition and other fees, and demonstrating proof of one's residency or citizenship. Students are also encouraged to participate in new student orientation and to meet with a counselor prior to registration to discuss program enrollment and develop a curriculum.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Individuals in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which is used by the school when determining a student's financial needs and aid program eligibility.Financial aid must be applied for prior to each academic year, and students receiving aid may be asked to provide additional tax information that will be compared to the information provided on one's FAFSA in order to verify its accuracy.
