Bakersfield is well known as one of the top community colleges in California. Over 15,000 students are enrolled on the main campus in northeast Bakersfield, at the Weill Institute, and at the Delano Center north of Bakersfield.The college follows a 16-week semester calendar as wells as offering classes on evenings and weekends. The cost of tuition for California residents is $46 per credit.

The college is well known for its outstanding programs in industrial and manufacturing technology. Bakersfield College offers programs in Basic Machine Tool Operations-Lathe, Computer Numerical Control Programming, Control Systems Technology, Industrial Technology: Manufacturing Technology, and Manufacturing Technology. The college also offers associate degree programs in French and Spanish.
