Barton Community College, located in Great Bend, Kansas, was founded in 1965 through a vote passed by residents of Barton County. The school was originally known as Barton County Community College, but changed its name is subsequent years. The school operates and maintains two campuses, Barton County Campus and Fort Riley Campus, each of which is equipped with facilities that are up to date and facilitate skill development and growth. The school is dedicated to providing quality services and education, constantly refining and updating programs to meet the needs of modern and future students.
Academics
Barton County Community College offers a variety of programs that are designed to meet the needs of the student population and residents of the school's service area. Career training and technical programs prepare individuals for entry into the workforce as qualified professionals. This is accomplished through the imparting of knowledge and development of skills necessary for employment in one's chosen field. Individuals will take traditional classroom courses alongside practical courses that develop skills and perfect the methods and techniques used in the workplace. A program will take between one and two years to complete, resulting a degree or certificate that demonstrates competency.
Students interested in academic transfer will complete the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education, after which the student will submit applications for transfer to four year colleges and universities in order to complete the final two years and earn one's bachelor's degree. Transfer to Kansas public institution is facilitated through agreements in place that allow for ease of admission. Individuals choosing to transfer to out of state or private institutions should meet with a counselor in order to develop a curriculum that best meets the varying admissions requirements of such schools.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Barton Community College is a public, two year, open enrollment institution that allows any individuals wishing to enroll to do so if they are 18 years of age or older or have a high school diploma or equivalent. Individuals will submit an application for admissions, supply transcripts and test scores if available and pay all incurred fees. Students also may be required to take a placement exam prior to registration. The school also suggests meeting with a counselor to discuss goals, program enrollment and curriculum.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which will be used by the school to determine the extent of a student's financial needs and aid program eligibility when constructing a financial aid packet. Aid must be reapplied for prior to each academic year.
