About
Black River Technical College, located in Pocahontas, Arkansas, was founded in 1972 and was originally known as Black River Vocational Technical School. The school was built on land donated by the city of Pocahontas for the purpose of providing vocational and technical education in northeastern Arkansas. The school changed its name in 1991 and became an independent institution in 1993, after which it began offering courses used for college transfer. The school is serves nearly 3000 students annually.
Academics
Black River Technical College offers a variety of programs aimed at assisting students meet their personal and professional goals. Career training and vocational programs allow students to receive an education in a high demand field or industry with intention of eventually entering the workforce as a qualified professional. Programs take between one and two years to complete and result in an associate degree or certificate upon completion. Academic transfer is accomplished by completing the first two years of a four year education at BRTC, followed by transfer to a four year institution to complete the final two years and earn their bachelor's degree.
