Blinn College (CBC)

3800 Charco Rd, Beeville, TX

Blinn College, located in Brenham, Texas, was founded 1883 by a Methodist denomination of the Christian church. By 1888 the school has become coeducational, and 1889 changed its name from Mission Institute to Blinn Memorial College in honor of Reverend Christian Blinn, whose financial contribution made establishing the school possible. The school went through restricting in 1927. Becoming a junior college, and by 1937 the school severed ties with previous partner Southwestern University and the Methodist Church. The school's name was once again changed, this time to the current Blinn University. That same year the school became part of the community college district of Washington Country, becoming one of the fifty community colleges currently operating in the state. Since becoming a public institution the school has expanded both physically and its program offerings, with several campus located in nearby regions to further expand its service area and provide residents with a quality education, economic development, and cultural growth.

Academics

Blinn College offers a large number of programs in a variety of fields to provide students the ability to pursue their academic or career goals. Academic transfer programs allow students to complete the first two years of a four year education at a much lower cost than a four year institution. Once students complete their freshman and sophomore years, they may apply for transfer to a four year institution to complete their requirements to obtain a bachelor's degree. Transfer to a public college or university in Texas is facilitated through specific requirements that increase the possibility of admission and a counselor should consulted to assist in course selection for transfer to such schools.

Career programs are often in high demand fields, reflecting the needs of the community. Students entering one of the many programs offered will obtain an education that facilitates the development of skills and abilities to operate as a professional in one's chosen field. Courses will often take place in the classroom as well as practical settings, providing students the opportunity to obtain actual experience prior to entering the workforce. Programs take between one and two years to complete, resulting in a certificate or diploma that signifies that the individual is qualified for immediate entry into the workforce.

Admissions and Financial Aid

As an open enrollment institution, any student who meets the minimum requirements for admission will be accepted upon completion and submission of the admissions application, transcripts, and test scores. Students should also participate in orientation and meet with academic advisor in order to plan one's career or educational future. Registration takes place shortly prior to the start of the semester, with tuition normally thereafter.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistant should complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to the posted deadline to ensure that funds are disbursed on time. The student aid report resulting from the FAFSA will be used to determine eligibility, need, and awards. Students may be asked to provide additional financial information prior to the disbursement of funds to ensure the accuracy of the information provided.

Athletics

The Blinn College Buccaneers Participate in a number of intercollegiate athletic programs through the NJCAA Region XIV Athletic Conference. Athletic programs provide students the opportunity to experience personal and group success with other individuals who are working together toward a common goal. The school provides a structured atmosphere for health competition, allowing for the development of a variety of skills, such as teamwork, discipline, good health and perseverance.
