About
Central Carolina Technical College, located in Sumter, South Carolina, was founded in 1962 through the efforts of a committee of individuals representing the counties of Sumter, Clarendon, Kershaw and Lee. Originally known as the Sumer Area Technical Education Center, the school became Sumter Area Technical College in 1971 and received accreditation as a two year technical and vocational college some three years later. Over the years the school has added programs and offerings allowing it to become a full fledged community college. The school has expanded its campuses as well as added new locations that have expanded its services and service area. The school serves over 15,000 credit and noncredit students annually.CCTC is a member of the South Carolina Technical College System.
Academics
Central Carolina Technical College offers programs that prepare students for careers in specific areas as well as provides transfer opportunities to four year institutions. The number of programs means that students will be able to choose a program that best suits the individual's needs and goals. Career training programs provide education in a specific area, allowing students to develop the skills necessary to be identified as professionals in the workforce. Individuals enrolled in such a program will be exposed to practical training as part of their curriculum, resulting in experience that is beneficial when pursuing work in the future. Graduates of programs will obtain an associate degree or certificate that demonstrates competency and allows for employment at the entry level in the given area of study.
Individuals may also pursue transfer to a four year institution through academic transfer programs that cover the first two years of a four year education. Upon completion, students may apply to a college or university to transfer their credits and work toward their bachelor's degree. Transfer requirements will vary from school to school, and will be easier with public institutions within South Carolina due to agreements with CCTC. Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to develop a curriculum that best accommodates desired transfer.

Central Carolina Technical College is an open enrollment institution that allows any individual that meets the minimum requirements for admission to enroll upon submission of a completed application as well as transcripts, test scores, and any other pertinent information. Students are encouraged to participate in orientation as well as visit a counselor to determine which program of study best suits their needs.
Financial aid is available through the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which will be used to determine a student's financial needs, aid program eligibility and monetary awards.
