Clark State Community College (OCU)

1476 Lancaster Pike, Circleville, OH

Clark State Community College, located in Springfield, Ohio, was established in 1962 and was originally known as the Springfield and Clark County Technical Education Program. The purpose of the program was to provide education locally for the growing needs of the community regarding technical education. Within four years the name was changed to Clark County Technical Institute and became Ohio's first technical college. Within a decade the school had grown in enrollment, added programs and received another name change to Clark Technical, a more apt description of the schools growing role at the time. By 1985 the school had developed a broad general education program and by 1988 was renamed Clark State Community College, adding new programs and resulting in the mission and goals the school maintains to this day.

Academics

Clark State Community College offers educational opportunities in the form of academic transfer or career training. Academic transfer programs provide parallel curriculum to the first two years of a four year program. Upon completion the student will apply to school or schools in order to continue their education. If accepted the earned credits will transfer and the student will be a junior at their new college or university and over the next two years fulfill the requirements necessary to complete their bachelor's degree. Students are free to apply to public, private and out of state schools, though transfer to public Ohio institutions will be made easier through agreements between CSCC and those schools.

Career training programs provide education and skill development in a given field under the supervision of seasoned professionals. Such an education allows for entry into the workforce as a qualified professional with the intent for long and successful career. Programs typically take between one and two years to complete, resulting in a diploma or certificate that demonstrates competency and help bolster potential the confidence of potential employers regarding the student's abilities.

Programs offered include:

Admissions and Financial Aid

Any individual 18 years or older, or having graduated an accredited high school program may enroll at CSCC by completing the application for admission and paying all the associated fees. Students are also encouraged to provide transcripts, standardized test scores and to meet with a counselor prior to registration. Students may also be required to take a placement exam in order to determine which level of general education courses they must begin with.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the primary source of information for the school regarding the student's financial situation when determining need and program eligibility. Aid must be reapplied for prior to each academic year.
