The Peralta Community Colleges is a district made out of 4 California Community Colleges, one of which is the College of Alameda (COA). The district has been established since 1964 and is the considered foundation of higher public education around the Oakland area.
Their vision is that COA a very diverse and supportive community of people seeking knowledge. The College of Alameda has made a commitment towards establishing a very ethical and creative environment to help develop students into critical thinkers and citizens of the world.
The Spanish land of Rancho San Antonio was historically granted to a Spanish sergeant and the name Peralta in particular is a reflection of one of the six cities comprising the college district. In general, residents from the neighboring towns of Albany, Berkeley, Oakland, Piedmont and Alameda are served and there are over 6300 enrolled students. The entire student population is undertaking undergraduate studies, and based upon the population it’s considered a fairly large school.
There's a special Student Services division at College of Alameda which is an established academic support network providing services to ensure the excellence and success of their students. Student Services currently offers help with articulation agreements and guaranteed transfers to 4 year universities, financial aid, health services, transfer programs, etc.
The tuition fee is $46 per semester unit for all Californian residents. International and out-of-state students are also welcome however; the tuition is set at an additional $4,560.
