College of the Albemarle

Known as the first comprehensive community college in North Carolina, College of the Albemarle celebrated its fifty years of academic service to the Northeast region of this state in 2011. Until today, it continues to serve and extend its programs to the seven counties of the Albemarle Area. COA is one 58 community colleges under the Carolina Community College System.

COA Campus in Elizabeth City lies in a 75-acre land located on Highway U.S. 17 North consists of six major buildings occupied by offices, classrooms, laboratories, auditorium and academic centers including the Learning Resources Center, Technology Center and the Health Sciences Center.

In an aim to become the premier university in the region and positively transform the community, COA provides opportunities for academic growth and workforce development. With its comprehensive educational programs, this college guides the students in their journey to achieving their academic and career aspirations. 

Students at COA are given opportunities to earn a degree or certificate in different areas of study such as Arts & Sciences Transfer; Business Technologies; Construction, Engineering & Industrial Trades; Health Sciences; Natural Resources and Artistic Production; and Public Service Technologies.
