Collin County Community College District, now referred to as "Collin College" or "Collin," is a public community college that includes three primary campuses, and four education centers in the Collin County of Texas: Central Park Campus (McKinney, Texas), Preston Ridge Campus (Frisco, Texas), Spring Creek Campus (Plano, Texas), Courtyard Center (Plano, Texas), Collin Higher Education Center (McKinney, Texas), Allen Center (Allen, Texas), and Rockwall Center (Rockwall, Texas).

Collin College offers credit and continuing education courses on its campuses, as well as electives and specialty courses online and at each of its centers. It offers more than 100 associate's degrees and professional certificates in a wide range of academic disciplines. The faculty at Collin College is highly acclaimed, boasting three Collin College professors that have been named the national U.S. Professor of the Year - a coveted title in collegiate teaching. Collin College has been "first" to offer several innovative programs, including its Alternative Teacher Certification Program, which was established in response to a critical need for classroom teachers. Collin is one of only six colleges in the U.S. designated to provide networking technology training as a Cisco Certified Training Center. Collin College began offering post-secondary education courses at local high schools in 1985.

Academics

The academic calendar for Collin College follows the semester format, with fall and spring semesters, and three short summer sessions. Additionally, there is a shorter "Wintermester" that runs from mid-December through the first week of January with a short break for the holidays. There is also a "Maymester," which offers classes that run form mid- to late May.

Colleges and Schools

Collin College divides it academic units into departments and centers, rather than into colleges and schools. It offers four types of associate-level degrees, academic transfer degrees and certificates, as well as technical workforce degrees and awards.

Collin College also awards select post-associate degree certificates.

Student Life

The Office of Student Life at Collin College offers students opportunities to get involved in civic, educational, leadership and social programs. There are at least seven recognized honor societies available at Collin, and more than 50 student organizations and clubs. Students can also work on special projects or join in social activities that are organized by the Office of Student Life. These activities include field trips, guest speakers, educational conferences, athletics and entertainment.

Description

Apply knowledge of nursing and informatics to assist in the design, development, and ongoing modification of computerized health care systems. May educate staff and assist in problem solving to promote the implementation of the health care system.

Information Security Analysts

Description

Plan, implement, upgrade, or monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information. May ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure. May respond to computer security breaches and viruses.

Computer Network Architects

Description

Design and implement computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks.
