Community College of Denver (CCD)

Community College of Denver, located in Denver, Colorado, was founded in 1967 by the Colorado Legislature.  The school operates three campuses within the city, with the main campus being known as the Auraria Campus and others in the Denver metropolitan area. The school is one of thirteen that comprise the Colorado Community College System, which operates public two year institutions throughout the state. The school is a leader in providing education to underprivileged and first generation minority residents, and has a high success rate for transfer and graduation. The school is a public two year institution dedicated to providing a high quality education and services for residents of its community.

Academics

Individuals attending Community College of Denver will be able to choose from academic and career programs that best reflect the personal and professional needs of the student. Academic transfer programs replicate a curriculum that covers the first two years of a four year education locally and at low cost, followed by applying to a four year institution in order to continue toward one's bachelor's degree. Transfer to public Colorado institutions is made easier through agreements in place that facilitate transfer if certain academic requirements are met. Transfer to out of state or private institutions may prove more difficult, and as such a meeting with a counselor is encouraged.

Career training programs prepare individuals for long term employment in a high demand field or industry by first providing a solid foundation of education and training in that field. Courses are taught by industry professionals and take place in both practical and classroom settings as needed. Practical courses provide skill development and training through practice under the supervision of the instructor to ensure safety. Programs take between one and two years to complete, resulting in a degree or certificate upon completion that demonstrates competency.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Community College of Denver is an open enrollment institution that admits any individuals interested in attending if they are at least eighteen years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent. Individuals should submit an application and pay all associated fees, as well as submit transcripts and test scores if available. Participation in orientation and meeting with a counselor to discuss program enrollment, curriculum and goals is highly encouraged. Students may be required to take a placement exam.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships awarded based on need. Students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which will be used by the school to determine the extent of need and aid program eligibility when constructing the financial aid packet. Aid must be reapplied for annually and should be submitted by posted deadlines to ensure disbursement occurs in a timely manner.
