Crowder College (Covenant)

Crowder College, located in Neosho, Missouri, was established in 1963. The school took over the space previously occupied by Fort Crowder. The school is a public, two year institution serving the counties of McDonald and Newton, as well as other outlying areas. The school is named after General Enoch Crowder a well known soldier and statesman from Missouri. Crowder has become known for its alternative energy program which was responsible for the design and development of the first automobile to be solar powered that was able to make a coast to coast journey. The school has maintained its excellence in that particular field, even as it provides educational excellence in other areas of study.

Academics

Crowder College offers a large number of programs designed to prepare individuals for academic transfer or prepare them for a career through training and education. Academic transfer programs will have students completing the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education through Crowder College, followed by the application and transfer to a four year institution to complete the final two years of a bachelor's degree. Transfer to public schools in MIssouri is made easier through transfer agreements in place with specific schools allowing for admission of certain criterion are met. Transfer to out of state or private schools is more difficult due to varying admissions requirements and possible credit transfer issues. Students wishing to pursue transfer should consult a counselor to develop a curriculum that best matches one's desired school or schools.

Career training programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or associate degree. Programs are designed to develop skills and abilities that are necessary to perform as a professional in one's chosen field. Courses are a mixture of practical and theoretical study, allowing student to apply learn methodologies and techniques, particularly in applied science programs, through controlled environments. Admissions and Financial Aid

Admissions to Crowder College is made easy through the school's open enrollment policy that allows any individual that is 18 years or older, or has a high school diploma or equivalent to submit an application along with transcripts and the payment of tuition in order to be admitted. Students may be asked to take a placement exam, though standardized test scores may be accepted in lieu of such an exam. The school encourages the participation of new students in orientation in order to familiarize themselves with the campus. Additionally, students should make an appointment prior to registration with a counselor to discuss program enrollment and curriculum.

Financial aid is given in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Loans are the only form of aid that must be repaid. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which is used by the school when developing the student's aid packet, specifically identifying the aid needs of the student and what forms of aid he or she is eligible for. Financial aid must be reapplied for prior to each academic year.
