CUNY LaGuardia Community College, located in Long Island City in Queens, New York, was established in 1968 by the Board of Higher Education of the City of New York, a precursor to the Board of Trustees to the City University of New York (CUNY), and originally identified as “Community College Number Nine”. The school is one of 24 that comprise the CUNY system and is named after former notable New York City Mayor Fiorello Henry LaGuardia. The school was once given a tract of land for a permanent home, though it was sold during the city's budget crisis in 1974, as a result the school remained at its first location at Ford Instrument Company building, though over time has expanded to nearby buildings to accommodate its growth and increased student enrollment. The school is dedicated to providing residents of its service area a quality education and service.

Academics

CUNY LaGuardia Community College offers students a large number of educational opportunities through its varied academic and career training programs. Students will be able to find a program and curriculum that suits their personal needs. Academic programs are geared toward transfer to a four year institution, allowing students to complete the freshman and sophomore years of a bachelor's at low cost prior to transfer to a four year institution. Transfers are facilitated by agreements in place with other CUNY schools, as well as man State University of New York (SUNY) schools. Career programs are aimed at developing individuals into professionals in a given field by offering training and education in the skills and abilities necessary to operate in the workforce. Graduates are able to immediately find work at the entry level upon completion, having earned a certificate or associate's degree to demonstrate qualifications. Such programs last between one and two years.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Students interested in enrollment at CUNY LaGuardia Community College must complete the general admissions application along with a non-refundable application fee. As an open enrollment institution, any individual who has earned a high school diploma or equivalent will be accepted to the school.
