Danville Area Community College, located in Danville, Illinois, was founded in 1946 as an extension of the University of Illinois. The school was opened to provide education opportunities for returning World War II veterans, and originally operated out of the local high school. Since its founding the school has grown in size and purpose, being given a permanent home in 1965 and becoming an independent institution in 1966. Today the school offers a wide variety of programs and services for residents of its service area.

Danville Area Community College is a comprehensive two year institution, and as such offers programs that allow for academic transfer and workforce development.
