Equine Studies Program

The equine studies program at Dawson Community College prepares students to care for horses and equipment, and give them the tools needed to train and manage horses and their riders. Classwork focuses on the horse, teaching the student how to ride and drive horses as well as instruction on health and safety. Program courses include: history of the horse, breeding, development and training, riding technique, track management and equipment maintenance and repair. Dawson Community College is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and is part of the Montana University System in Eastern Montana. The campus is situated in the hills of Eastern Montana along the Yellow river and the Makoshika State Park.

In its commitment to provide excellent academic programs and lifelong learning experience, this college offers vocational and technical degrees, certificate and transfer programs. At present, Dawson Community College has 28 Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, 13 Associate of Applied Science degrees, 4 Vocational Certificate and 5 Online programs.

Most of the students are enrolled in transfer programs as they aim to pursue a four-year degree in other institutions. Several transfer articulation agreements have been established with four-year colleges and universities including Montana Tech, MSU-Bozeman, MSU-Billings and U of M, Western on selected courses.

For self-motivated students, online courses are available on particular programs. There is also the Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program designed to prepare students for GED test, college education and employment. ABE includes Standard Education Literacy, Workplace Literacy and Family Literacy programs.

Description

Teach courses in the agricultural sciences. Includes teachers of agronomy, dairy sciences, fisheries management, horticultural sciences, poultry sciences, range management, and agricultural soil conservation. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.

Animal Trainers

Description

Train animals for riding, harness, security, performance, or obedience, or assisting persons with disabilities. Accustom animals to human voice and contact; and condition animals to respond to commands. Train animals according to prescribed standards for show or competition. May train animals to carry pack loads or work as part of pack team.
