Estrella Mountain Community College

Estrella Mountain Community College, located in Avondale, Arizona, was founded in 1992. EMCC was founded to create a place that reflects the historical and social values of the surrounding communities. The school provides a modern campus upon which a high quality education is bestowed upon over 15,000 students a year.
The school operates several centers throughout its service area to extend education and career training opportunities to various communities. Estrella is located in the fastest growing area in the state, and has master-planned its growth to be able to accommodate over 40,000 students a year in the coming years. Estrella Mountain Community College is one of ten such schools in the Maricopa County Community College District, and it is the also the most recent one to be established.
Academics
Estrella Mountain Community College offers students a multitude of programs to choose from, ensuring that a student will be able to pursue his or her interests when considering their academic or career future. Academic transfer programs allow students to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four year institution after completing their freshman and sophomore years at EMCC at a low cost.
Once the two years are completed, students may apply for transfer to the four year institution or institutions of their choosing and if accepted continue their education there. Career programs provide students with a certificate or associate degree, which signifies that the student has learned the skills and knowledge necessary to operate in a professional environment related to their field of study. Graduates will be immediately eligible for work in entry level positions.

Admissions and Financial Aid
As an open enrollment institution all students who apply are eligible for admissions at Estrella Mountain Community College. Students interested in attending this school must supply their residency status to determine tuition and choose their program in order to start the registration process. Students may also be asked to provide standardized test scores and pertinent transcripts.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, scholarships and work study programs. Students in need of financial aid must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which will be used to determine need, eligibility and awards. Students will have to submit a new FAFSA every year of attendance in order to receive financial aid from the school.
Athletics
EMCC participates in intercollegiate athletics through its cross country and golf programs available to both men and women. The school competes in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Athletic programs are beneficial for students who wish to pursue both academic and athletic success, as it allows an opportunity to grow and develop skills that are useful in both a school and work environment; skill such as teamwork, discipline and good health.
