Evergreen Valley College

Evergreen Valley College, located in San Jose, California, was established in 1975. Planning for the school began in 1964 due to the establishment of the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District. Initial enrollment for the school was approximately 3,000 students, a number which has grown to 12,000 in the present day. The school has received funding to expand its facilities over the years, and continues to do so with recent bond measures. Such funding has allowed for the growth of programs, a large library, a student center, and an observatory. The most recent addition was the Center for the Arts, which was opened in 2009.Evergreen Valley College hosts students from over 70 countries, and takes pride in the fact that it is one of the most diverse schools in the California Community College System. The goal of the school is to produce academically successful students who aim to be civically responsible global citizens.
Academics
As a community college Evergreen Valley College offers associate degrees and certificates in a large number of programs. Most programs take two years to complete, though certificate programs are generally shorter due to the absence of general education courses in the curriculum. Some programs are academically oriented, and designed to assist students in transferring to a four year institution. Students in these programs will complete the first two years of a four year education. Additionally, Evergreen Valley College has agreements in place with certain four year institutions that guarantee transfer if certain prerequisites and academic standards are met. Other programs provide vocational or technical training, providing the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce at the entry level for their chosen field.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Evergreen Valley College utilizes an open enrollment policy. Students interested in enrolling should complete and submit the admissions application along with all relevant transcripts. Students must also take a placement exam to see which courses they will be placed in. Some programs may have limited space, and it is suggested that students should apply early to guarantee a spot. Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans and scholarships. Students requiring aid should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility and awards. The financial aid office is available to assist students in the application process. Scholarships may require a separate application to be submitting to the scholarship's overseeing body, and may be awarded to an individual for reasons other than financial need.
Athletics
Athletic programs are available as classes on campus. Programs are semester specific, and are designed to educate students on the benefits of athletics on health. Some courses offered are part of a larger program, providing educational instruction the lectures and labs. Athletic programs in general provide students with certain skills that may be beneficial in the future, such as discipline, teamwork, and maintaining good health. In addition to the regular course offerings through the college, the school has opened its tennis courts to the public, allowing them to be used by individuals in the community regardless of enrollment or class schedule.

Student Life
Evergreen Valley College's office of student life is responsible for keeping students up to date with events and activities taking place throughout the school.
