Forsyth Technical Community College, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina was founded in 1960 and is one of the largest colleges in the North Carolina Community College System, which governs and funds community colleges located throughout the state. The school maintains an annual enrollment of nearly 10,000 students annually. The school serves the counties of Stokes and Forsyth, and maintains campuses in Winston-Salem, Kernersville, King, Walnut Cove and Westfield, with eight locations overall.  The school offers high quality, low cost education for residents in low income areas.

Academics

Forsyth Technical Community College offers educational opportunities in the form of career training and transfer programs, offered either through campus or as distance learning options. Career training programs provide education and skill development in one of many high demand fields or industries with the purposes of long term employment after graduation. These programs take between one and two years to complete, resulting in a degree or certificate upon completion. Academic transfer programs allow students to pursue a four year education at low cost by completing a curriculum that mirrors the first two years of a bachelor's degree program at the community college. Once the program is completed students will apply for transfer to a four year institution to complete their education and earn their bachelor's degree.

Admissions and Financial Aid

As an open enrollment institution, individuals interested in enrolling at Forsythe Technical Community College must submit a completed application, pay all associated fees, be at least eighteen years of age or have completed high school or equivalent, and provide transcripts and test scores if available. Some students may be required to take a placement exam prior to registration. Students are also encouraged to meet with a counselor to discuss enrollment options, as well as participate in orientation to familiarize them with the campus they will be enrolled at.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Aid is awarded based on need which is determined by the school through the use of information provided by the student in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once the extent of need is determined the school will see which programs the student qualifies for and construct an aid packet that allows the student affordable access to education. Aid must be reapplied for prior to each academic year and forms should be submitted early to ensure funds are disbursed in a timely manner.

Forsyth Technical Community College is home to a large number of clubs and organizations that allow for new experiences, personal enrichment, and personal growth. Participation ids voluntary but encouraged, as students are able to explore new ideas and meet interesting individuals with whom to socialize with. Clubs an organization allow for college experiences outside of the classroom, and offer valuable experience in the form of teamwork, leadership and self expression, among others.
