Aaniiih Nakoda College (formerly Fort Belknap College) founded in 1984, is a tribal college located on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. ANC generally serves geographically isolated populations that have no other means accessing education beyond the high school level.
The college helps individuals to improve their lives by offering them an opportunity to maintain the cultural integrity of the Gros Ventre and Assiniboine Tribes as well as succeed in an American technological society.
ANC offers four certificate programs and 11 associate's degree programs. In 2010 7 students received certificates and 19 students received associates' degrees. As a small tribal college, Aaniiih Nakoda College has implemented an academic oriented, yet supportive culture. The student body includes approx 56 percent female students, 87 percent Native American students and 62 percent full-time students.
Aaniiih Nakoda College is a member of the AIHEC (American Indian Higher Education Consortium). The institution incorporates native culture into the curriculum and promotes cultural identity. Many talented young people have been hired by Aaniiih Nakoda from within the community; since the College is dedicated to a “grow your own†philosophy of developing the community's future leaders.
