Fresno City College (FCC) is a two-year community college in the San Joaquin Valley area of California. FCC offers associate's degrees, certificates, college transfer programs, vocational and workforce training programs, distance learning through online courses, continuing education and lifelong development programs.

Topics for academic study range from architecture to business, and culinary arts to communication, marketing to mathematics, or political science to women's studies. Some special programs of interest at FCC include courses in the Health Sciences Division, which offers training in occupations such as dental hygiene, medical assistant-clinician, radiologic technology, and nursing and respiratory care. The political science has a Model United Nations program that trains students in real-world diplomacy, competing in conferences with other colleges where Delegates act as diplomats from UN member states.

The FCC Museum of Anthropology presents exhibits on human culture. Anthropology students at FCC may learn collections management, helping to develop new exhibits at the museum.  The Theatre Arts and Dance students of FCC have the opportunity to participate in several productions in the FCC Theatre each year, in addition to their coursework.

History

Fresno City College (FCC) was founded in 1910, as Fresno Junior College, California's first community college.  The first class had 20 students. Originally, FCC shared a campus with what is now known as "California State University, Fresno." FCC moved to its own campus on University Avenue in Fresno in 1956.

Student Life

There are many student clubs, services, and organizations to get involved in at FCC, through its College Activities Office. The College Activities Calendar of Events highlights college cultural and community events such as films, panel discussions, and interactive activities. There is a Student Lounge for students to rest or study in a quiet environment, as well as a Game Room, which offers a game arcade, ping-pong table, and more.

Students have the opportunity to volunteer their services through charitable organizations such as the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society, among others.

The FCC provides many student support services including a business office, career center, counseling, psychological services, disabled students program, health services, a veterans office, and a tutorial center, among others.

The student-run newspaper at FCC is "The Rampage," an award-winning publication that is written and edited by FCC journalism students. The newspaper has won awards for its excellence, and many of its contributors have gone on to successful careers in journalism.

Satellite Campuses

In addition to its main campus on University Avenue, FCC has a Career and Technology Center, which is a vocational education school for competency based career education. It also has satellite learning centers at Oakhurst and Willow International, which are among the "North Centers" that are part of the State Center Community College District. It is possible to take classes at Fresno City College concurrently with classes at any of these satellite centers.
