About
Gadsden State Community College, located in Gadsden, Alabama, was established through the merger of several institutions, the first of which was founded in 1925 and was known as the Alabama School of Trades, the first of its kind in the southern United States, and is currently the East Broad Campus of the college. The second was the Gadsden Vocational Trade School which began operation in 1960, identified as a historically black college in 1997 and currently Valley Street Campus. Gadsden State Junior College was formed in 1965 and is now the Wallace Drive Campus. These schools were combined in 1985 by the Alabama State Board of Education. The Harry M. Ayers State Trade School came into being in 1962 and became the Harry M. Ayers Campus through merger in 2003. The college also operates several learning centers in addition to its main campuses. Gadsden State Community College is dedicated to providing the a quality education to residents of its service area, updating programs and facilities as needed to modernize and meet the demands of its student base.
Academics
Gadsden State Community College offers a variety of programs that result in either a certificate or degree, and take between one and two years to complete. The large number of programs allows students to choose a program that best meets their needs and future goals. Technical and career programs provide the necessary training and education in a specific field that allows for the development of skills and abilities required to enter the workforce as a qualified professional. These programs are generally reflective of community needs, and are usually in high demand. Individuals who complete a career training program will earn a degree or certificate which demonstrates competency and allows for entry level employment.
Academic transfer programs track allows students to complete the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education. Once complete the student will submit an application to a four year college or university to transfer earned credits and complete one's bachelor's degree. Students should meet with a counselor to discuss a curriculum that best reflect the transfer requirements necessary for the student's desired school or schools.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Gadsden State Community College is a public, two year, open enrollment institution. Any individual  interested in enrollment may do so by completing the application for admission and payment of tuition. Students must supply previous transcripts and test scores and may be required to take a placement exam. Students may also visit new student orientation in order to familiarize themselves with campus life. It is also recommended students meet with an academic advisor to discuss program enrollment and curriculum.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), information from which will be used to determine the student's financial needs and aid program eligibility. Aid must be reapplied for prior to the start of each academic year.
