The veterinary assistant program at Great Bay Community College prepares students to assist veterinarians, laboratory animal specialists, and zoological professionals in treating animals. They also have the option to become a kennel attendant, animal caretaker, groomer, zookeeper, or animal trainer. Great Bay Community College, located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire began in 1945 as part of a state initiative to fill the need for trade schools, particularly for veterans returning from World War II. Over the years the focus and name of the school have changed, though not the desire to provide quality education to its service community.

GBCC has added locations and programs over time. The school officially became known as Great Bay Community College in 2008 and moved to a renovated Portsmouth Campus in 2009.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Students interested in enrolling at GBCC should complete and submit the application along with all relevant transcripts. Once submitted, students will be asked to place a tuition deposit. During this time students will take a placement exam and meet with a counselor to discuss program availability and goals. Once completed students will complete the registration form and begin their education at GBCC.

Financial aid is available to eligible students. Eligibility is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which should be completed and submitted prior to the posted deadline. Various federal and state aid is available and a financial aid counselor will assist in determining which form aid is right for each individual.
