1301 S 48th Street, Quincy, IL

Joliet Junior College (JJC) has the privilege of being America’s first public community college. Founded in 1901, JJC had six students that year. Today, it has three campuses and three education centers in Joliet, Romeoville, Frankfort and Morris, and enrolls over 15,000 students every year.

JJC boasts a string of famous alumni, such as: John Cornelius Houbolt, who promoted the Lunar Orbit Rendezvous which was key to man’s moon mission in the 1960s; Curtis J. Crawford, Director at DuPont, the world’s third largest chemicals firm, and CEO of XCEO, Inc.; and, Jeris Pendleton, a free agent football defensive tackle who has played with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Dallas Cowboys.

JJC offers a wide range of programs for associate degrees and certifications in areas as diverse as Agricultural Business, Swine Management, Criminal Justice Administration, Retail Business Management, Computer Programming, Journalism, Music, Astronomy and Veterinary Medical Technology.

Tuition at JJC runs at about $7,500 per year exclusive of books and other costs. Though more expensive than many other community colleges, JJC offers a range of curriculum and extracurricular activities that not many peer institutions can boast of. Student clubs include organizations for political, professional, recreational, spiritual activities, and there are numerous other extracurricular activities that students can engage in when they’re not preparing for their future careers.

JJC comes highly recommended not only because they are pioneers in community education, but because they actively participate in the educational and economic development of the communities they serve through workforce education and business training.
