Lake – Sumter Community College (LSSC)

Lake–Sumter State College, located in Leesburg, Florida, was established in 1962 through the combined interests and efforts of the counties of Lake and Sumter. The school utilized a temporary location its first few years, with groundbreaking and construction for a permanent campus taking place in 1964 Leesburg. Additional campuses were constructed in 1994 (Sumter) and 1999 (Lake) to better cover and provide opportunities for residents of its service area. The school is part of the Florida College System which governs 28 community and state colleges, throughout the state and provides low cost high quality two and four year programs from its various institutions. Lake-Sumter State College was previously known as a Lake-Sumter Community College, but changed its name in 2010 to reflect the addition of bachelor degree programs becoming available through the school.
Academics
Lake-Sumter State College offers a variety of programs that allow students to pursue academic or career goals upon completion. Academic programs allow students to complete the first two years of a four year education, followed by transferring to a four year college or university to continue one's education and complete a bachelor's degree. Transfer to public Florida institutions is made easier through agreements in place between colleges and systems that allow students that meet certain requirement to have guaranteed admission. A student wishing to apply to out of state or private institutions will have differing admissions requirements and it is best they meet with a counselor to discuss goals and curriculum.
Career training programs prepare individuals for entry into the workforce as professionals through training, education and development in a specific area of study and employment. Individuals will participate in tradition and practical courses, with practical courses preparing students for real world environments and providing the skills and abilities necessary to perform their duties. Programs take between one and two years to complete, resulting in certificate or degree that demonstrates competency and assists in developing employer confidence when seeking entry level positions.
Lake-Sumter State College also offers a bachelor's degree program in Organization Management. Students will participate in a 2+2 program which allows for continuation into the degree program if all goals are met the first two years.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Lake-Sumter State College is an open enrollment institution that allows any individual to enroll so long as they meet the minimum requirements for admissions, specifically being 18 years of age or older or having a high school diploma or equivalent. Interested persons should submit a completed application, pay all associated fees, provide all pertinent transcripts and test scores, and be prepare to possible take a placement exam prior to registration. Participation in new student orientation is encouraged, as is meeting with a counselor prior to registration discuss program enrollment and curriculum.
Financial aid is available to eligible students in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Eligibility is determined through the information provided by the student through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which is used by the school to identify the extent of a student's needs and their aid program eligibility when constructing an aid packet.
