McLennan Community College, located in Waco, Texas, was founded in 1965 through a vote by the residents of McLennan County. Since its inception the school has prided itself on providing an excellent atmosphere for education through its scenic surroundings as well as through modern facilities. It is the first two year institution in the state to utilize the “community college” name. The school prides itself on its educational offerings and its relationship with the community, working closely residents to provide workforce and cultural development. The school serves nearly 10,000 students a year, and is constantly reviewing its program to ensure that these students receive the most up to date education possible.

Academics
McLennan Community College offers a large number of programs designed for career training or academic transfer. Students may choose the program that best suits their professional or academic needs. Career training programs take between one and two years to complete and result in either a certificate or associate degree demonstrating competency in the area of study. Students enrolled in a career program will develop the skills necessary to enter the workforce as professionals, often at the entry level immediately after graduations,

Academic transfer programs provide students with the opportunity to complete the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education at low monetary cost, followed by transfer to a college or university to complete one's bachelor's degree. In addition, the school offers a number of specific transfer programs catered for specific school within Texas, allowing for ease of transfer upon completion. Transfer to school lacking an agreement with MCC is possible, and students wishing to do so may wish to meet with a counselor to cater their curriculum to the requirements of the specific school or schools.

Admissions and Financial Aid
As an open enrollment institution, McLennan Community College will enroll any student who meets the minimum requirements for admission if they submit a completed application. Applicants must provide previous transcripts, proof of immunization and take a placement exam prior to registration. It is advised that students participate in orientation and meet with a counselor to discuss goals and program enrollment. Registration takes place before the start of each semester.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, and scholarships. Students in need of financial assistance must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the resulting information from which will be used to determine financial need, aid program eligibility, and monetary awards. Students may be asked to provide additional financial documentation prior to the disbursement of funds to ensure accuracy. Financial aid must be reapplied for prior to the start of each academic year.

Athletics
McLennan Community College participates in a variety of intercollegiate athletic programs through the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region V. The school has maintained a history of success in athletics, particularly through its dance company, which is nationally recognized as one of the best among two year institutions. Intercollegiate athletics provide a forum for healthy competition, allowing students to experience camaraderie with others pursuing the same goal, through success and failure, and developing skills and habits such as discipline, teamwork and good health, which may be applied to one's academic, professional and personal life. Athletic programs have varying start dates and interested students should contact the athletic department for tryout dates and times.
