About
Mesalands Community College, located in Tucumcari, New Mexico, was founded in 1979 though the Area Vocational School Act of New Mexico and was originally known as Tucumcari Area Vocational School. In 1993 the school began offering associate of applied science degrees and was renamed to Mesa Technical College as a reflection of its expanded offerings. In 2001 the school once again changed its name, this time to the current in order to identify itself as a comprehensive community college.
Academics
Mesalands Community College offers a variety of programs that allow students to pursue career training or academic transfer in order to achieve one's personal goals. Career training programs allow students to receive an education in a high demand field or industry with the purpose of seeking long term employment upon completion. Programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a degree or certificate. Academic transfer programs allow students to complete the first two years of a four year education followed by applying to a college or university to complete the final two years and earning a bachelor's degree.

Mesalands Community College is a public, two year, open enrollment institution that allows any individual interested in attending to do so through the completion of the application and payment of fees. Students are asked to provide transcripts and test scores, as well as possibly take a placement exam prior to registration. Participation in orientation and a meeting with a counselor for new students is also encouraged. Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships and are awarded based on need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
