About
Metropolitan Community College, located in Omaha, Nebraska, was established in 2011 through the consolidation of eight area colleges. These school comprised what was originally known as the Metropolitan Technical Community College Area, and later Metropolitan Community College Area. The consolidation of these schools into a single unified entity has resulted in a four campuses and a number of education centers throughout the city. The school currently enrolls over 46,000 students a year, 29,000 of which are credit seeking individuals. The school currently serves residents of Dodge, Sarpy, Washington, and Douglas Counties. The school is the largest provider of education in the region, offering educational opportunities to residents, international students, enlisted military, and limited services to inmates as part of their rehabilitation.

Academics
Metropolitan Community College offers an over 100 programs of study, allowing students to choose the track that best reflects their goals and needs. Career training programs provide education and skill development in a particular field and allow the individual to eventually enter the workforce as a qualified professional. Programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or degree, demonstrating one's competency and allowing for employment at the entry level. Individuals will during their studies be exposed to both theoretical and practical courses, allowing student to utilize skills and knowledge learned in simulated settings to further their experience.

Academic transfer programs allow students to complete the first two years of a four year education. Once completed, students will apply to a college or university in order to transfer their earned credits and complete the final two years of their bachelor's degree. Due to the variations in transfer admissions policies and requirements from school to school, it is recommended students consult a counselor to develop a curriculum that best meets the criterion of the student's desired school or schools.

Admissions and Financial Aid
Metropolitan Community College is an open enrollment institution that allows any person who meets the minimum requirements for admission to enroll through the submission of an application and payment of tuition. Students are asked to supply transcripts and test scores, as well as any other pertinent information prior to registration. Individuals may also need to take a placement exam in order to assist in the general education process. The school recommends new students participate in orientation to familiarize themselves with student life and to meet with a counselor to discuss goals and develop a curriculum.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, and scholarships. Any student in need of financial assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit it prior to the start of each academic year in order to be considered for aid. The information from the FAFSA will be used by the financial aid department to determine the student's monetary needs regarding education and their aid program eligibility, putting forth a financial aid package that will meet those identified needs. Student may be chosen at random to provide additional financial information to verify the accuracy of the FAFSA due to recent changes in federal regulations governing aid disbursement. Students must also maintain an acceptable GPA in order to continue receiving aid.

Metropolitan Community College is home to a number of clubs and organizations that allow students to participate in social, cultural, academic or other interests. Students may choose to participate in clubs with likeminded individuals in a friendly environment or pursue new interests in non-familiar topics and experiment with new ideas. Clubs meet regularly throughout the year, and each has its own purpose and set of activities. Students are encouraged to participate in one or more club as they see fit and time allows..
