106 Warriner Hall, Mount Pleasant, MI

Charles Stewart Mott Community College, more often referred to as Mott Community College, is a public two year institution founded in 1923 and located in Flint Michigan. The school was originally known as Flint Junior College and held its first classes at Flint Central High School. As enrollment increased the need for a permanent campus became necessary, resulting in a move in 1931 to the Oak Grove Campus. A donation was given by Charles Stewart Mott in 1946 toward the establishment of a four year institution, and though that college was not built, the funds promised were used to build a second campus on the Applewood Estate. The school was named Genesee Community College until the time of Mott's death in 1970, at which point the school as renamed in his honor.

Academics

MCC is a comprehensive community college that offers a variety of programs, services and opportunities aimed at meeting the needs and expectations of modern students. Academic transfer programs offered at the school allow students to take a curriculum that reflect the first two years of a four year education. Upon completion, the student will apply to four year colleges and universities, and if accepted will transfer credits and continue their studies, eventually earning a bachelor's degree. Such transfer is made easier through agreements in place with Washington colleges and universities, particularly public one's that ease requirements and may even guarantee admission if certain academic standards are met.

Career training programs offer an education in high demand field or industry aimed at providing training and skill development that allows the student to enter the workforce as a qualified professional. Individuals studying in these programs will receive both classroom and practical training with practical courses being overseen by seasoned professionals with years of experience who are responsible for the supervision of activities that require training and safety. Programs take between one and two years to complete, resulting in a certificate or associate degree.

Programs offered include:

Admissions and Financial Aid

Mott Community College is an open enrollment institution that allows any individual who submits an application, pays fees, and supplies pertinent academic information to enroll. Students may also be required to take a placement exam prior to registration if standardized test scores are unavailable. It is also recommended that students participate in orientation and meet with a counselor prior to their first semester of study in order to familiarize themselves with campus and discuss what options are available.

Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants and scholarships. Aid is typically awarded based on need, and is determined through the completion and submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the information from which is used by the financial aid department of MCC to determine the need and program eligibility of the student when constructing his or her packet. Aid must be reapplied for each academic year and should be completed early in order to ensure funds arrive at the right time.
