About
Navarro College, located in Corsicana, Texas, was founded in 1946 through the efforts of the local citizenry who felt the need to bring an educational institution to Navarro County. Originally known as Navarro Junior College, a majority of the school's initial enrollment were returning World War II veterans utilizing the newly established GI Bill to obtain an education. In 1951 the school moved to its permanent location, initially a 47 acre tract of land, though through expansion and development, now occupying over 103 acres. In 1974 the school broadened its educational offerings and goals, dropping the junior from its name to reflects its new educational goals. The school operates several centers in its support areas, which include the counties Navarro, Ellis, Freestone, Limestone and Leon. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Academics
Navarro College offers a large number of programs to ensure that enrolled students will be able to find a program which suits their educational or professional needs. Some programs assist in academic transfer to a four year institution to complete a bachelor's degree by allowing students to complete the freshman and sophomore years of a four year education. Other programs provide technical or career training and are designed to meet the needs of the service area by developing professionals who may enter the workforce immediately after graduation. These programs impart the skills and experience necessary to obtain an entry level position in a given field, and are reflective of the communities overall professional needs.

Non-credit courses are also available for individuals pursuing personal interests. Non-credit courses cost less than credit courses, and lack the class and homework requirements typically associated with credit courses.
Admissions and Financial Aid
As a public two year institution, Navarro College utilizes an open enrollment policy for admission, allowing any student who meets the school's minimum requirements to be accepted. Some programs may have limited space and additional requirements. Applicants should also supply high school and/or college transcripts as well as standardized test scores. Registration takes place shortly before the start of a given semester, after which tuition must be paid.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, grants, work study programs and scholarships. Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which takes into account household income in order to assess need and determine aid eligibility and awards. Students may be required to provide the school additional financial information prior to disbursement of funds in order to ensure accuracy in for the financial information provided through the FAFSA. External scholarships may also be available, requiring separate applications and awarded for reasons as outlined by the scholarships mission.
Athletics
The Navarro College Bulldogs have a history of excellence in intercollegiate athletics, the most recent of which is having earned 7 championship banners between 2008 and 2010. The school participates in the National Junior College Athletics Association region IV athletic conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. Intercollegiate athletics allow students to participate in healthy competition while developing skills and abilities that are beneficial for one's academic and professional career. These skills include discipline, good health and teamwork. Additionally, athletic programs assist in the development of school spirit and support by non-participants, creating a sense of camaraderie and community among students, teachers and residents.
