About
New River Community and Technical College, located in Beckley, West Virginia, was established in 2003 as the most recent such school in the state. The school is the result of a merger between two previously established institutions, Bluefield State College and Glenville State College, which have a histories dating over a century.
NRCTC serves a fairly large service area which includes nine counties which are served by five campuses, located in Beckley, Princeton, Summersville, Beaver and Lewisburg. The school is one of ten that comprise the West Virginia Community and Technical College System.
Academics
Students may choose from a variety of program options available to them at New River Community and Technical College. Academic transfer programs prepare students for entry into a four year college or university by first allowing them to complete their freshman and sophomore years locally followed by transferring earned credits for use toward a bachelor's degree.
Career programs provide education and training in one of several high demand fields for entry into the workforce for the purposes of long term employment as a qualified professional. Programs take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or degree.
