About
Pitt Community College, located in Winterville, North Carolina, was founded in 1961 and was originally known as Pitt Industrial Education Center. By 1964 the school was designated as a technical institute, resulting in a  name change to Pitt Technical Institute. A bill enacted by the General Assembly in 1979 changed the school to a community college, which added university transfer programs as part of the curriculum. The school is part of the 58 school North Carolina Community College System (NCCS), which is the third largest such system in the United States. The school, in line with the NCCS, changed from a quarter to semester system in 1997.

Academics
Students will be able to choose from programs that allow for academic transfer or assist in workforce development through training in a high demand field. Academic transfer is accomplished through a program that emulates the course of study and curriculum a student pursuing a bachelor's degree would experience their first two years. Upon completion students will apply to a four year institution, and if accepted, enter the new school as a junior, completing the final two years and earning a bachelor's degree. Students applying to public colleges and universities in North Carolina will be assisted in the transfer process by agreements in place easing requirements for transfer if certain criteria are met. Transfer to out of state or private institutions will have separate requirements that should be discussed with a counselor.

Career training programs are aimed at providing an education and skill development that will allow an individual to pursue a successful career upon completion. Courses are mix of traditional and practical settings, providing theory as well as practice in regards to the types of activities and skills necessary in order to be considered for employment. Programs typically take two years to complete, though some may have shorter durations, such as six, nine or twelve months. Upon completion students will receive a certificate or degree.

Admissions and Financial Aid

Students wishing to apply to Pitt Community College will have to fill out and submit an application, provide transcripts from all previous schools attended and pay all associated fees. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older or have a high school diploma. Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to discuss goals, program enrollment and curriculum, as well as to participate in orientation to familiarize themselves with the campus.
