Quincy College

558 South Ave, Weston, MA

Quincy College, located in Quincy, Massachusetts, was founded in 1956 as a result of high demand for post secondary education in the area of South Shore. Residents created a citizen's committee to study the feasibility of establishing a community college in the area. Classes started being offered in 1956, and over the next five years classes and programs were offered resulting in the college being able to award associate level degrees. In 1991 the school added a second campus in the town of Plymouth, thirty miles south of the Quincy campus. The school is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Academics

Students may choose either academic transfer or career training programs that allow students to take the one that best reflects their needs and interests. Academic transfer is achieved through the completion of the first two years of a four year education at the school. Once completed students will apply to a college or university in order to complete the final two years of study and earn their bachelor's degree. It is recommended that students meet with a counselor to develop a curriculum for transfer that best meets the needs of the desired school or schools due to the varying transfer requirements and admissions policies of individuals schools..

Career training programs assist students in developing the specific skills and abilities necessary to enter the workforce as professionals in a given field. These programs typically have a mix of theoretical and practical courses, and students will learn to apply the techniques and methods explored in class through controlled environments that mimic real world settings. Programs take between one and two years to complete, resulting in a certificate or degree, and allowing individuals to seek employment at the entry level.
