Rowan – Cabarrus Community College (RCC)
215 Wrenn Memorial Road, Wentworth, NC
About
Rowan - Cabarrus Community College, located in Salisbury, North Carolina, was founded in 1960 in response to a chamber of commerce report demonstrating areas of technical need that were lacking in the community. As a result, voters of Rowan county approved a bond of 500,000 for the purchase of land and construction of what would be known as Rowan Technical Institute through community college-technical institute act, which allowed for the expansion of programs beyond the original seven. Over the course of the school's history, it has updated its program offerings and expanded its focus, resulting in several name changes, the most recent of which has led to the current and best describes the school's mission and service area. The school serves over 20,000 students a year across four campuses and is one of the 58 schools that comprise the North Carolina Community College System.
Academics
Rowan - Cabarrus Community College offers a large number of programs dedicated to providing students a quality education and allow them to choose one that best suits the career or academic goals. Career and technical programs provide students with the training and skills to perform in the workplace as professionals in their area of study through practical and traditional classroom educations. These programs typically take between one and two years to complete and result in a certificate or associate degree that demonstrates competency in the area of study and allows for immediate employment at the entry level.
Academic transfer programs offer student the opportunity to complete the first two years of a four year education, followed by transfer to a college or university to complete a bachelor's degree. Transfer must be applied for, and schools have varying requirements for admission. It is recommended that students interested in transfer meet with an academic counselor to plan a curriculum that best suits the requirements of the student's chosen school or schools.
