Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College

1200 N. Magnolia Ave., Anaheim, CA

Established in 1998 in Mount Pleasant Michigan, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College (SCTC) is open to anyone, not just tribal members.  SCTC offers 2 year Associate of Arts programs in Liberal Arts, Business, and Native American Studies.  The college is fully accredited and offers financial aid through Pell Grants, the Michigan Tuition Incentive Program (TIP), Michigan Tuition Waiver Program, Tribal Scholarships, and other sources.

SCTC degrees are structured primarily to allow students to transfer to baccalaureate programs at 4 year colleges and universities.  The school maintains small class sizes of 25 students or less at a very affordable cost.  Tuition for the 2013/2014 school year is $60 per credit hour with an additional $25 per credit hour student fee.  According to the SCTC website, this compares very favorably with Mid-Michigan Community College’s $171 per credit hour and Central Michigan University’s $363 per credit hour.  SCTC has no on campus housing at this time.

By any standard SCTC is small in size.  In 2013 the graduating class was under 25 students.  The small student population allows the school to better focus on its central mission to educate the whole person in a nurturing environment.  SCTC is built on Native American cultural values including truth, wisdom, bravery, humility, respect, love, and honesty.

These values are reflected in the SCTC Student Services Center that not only provides personal attention to course selection and academic advice, but also offers a full range of tutoring services available to students seven days a week, including evenings.
