About
San Bernardino Valley College, located in located in San Bernardino, California, was founded in 1926 and is the fifth oldest two year institution in the state. When first established the school maintained two temporary sites located in high schools and had an initial enrollment of 140 students. The school currently maintains an annual enrollment of over 25,000 students and maintain its facilities and programs through a yearly budget of nearly sixty million dollars. The school has two campuses and nearly a 1000 part and full time faculty and a staff of nearly 500 all working to ensure that services, programs and facilities meet and exceed the needs of current and future students.
Academics
Students will be able to choose from programs that allow for academic transfer or assist in workforce development through training in a high demand field. Academic transfer is accomplished through a two year program that emulates the course of study and curriculum a student pursuing a bachelor's degree would. Upon completion the student will be able to apply to a four year institution, and if accepted enter as a junior to complete the final two years and earn a bachelor's degree. Students applying to public colleges and universities in California will be assisted in the transfer process by agreements in place easing requirements and guaranteeing admissions if certain criteria are met. Transfer to out of state or private institutions will have separate requirements that should be discussed with a counselor.
Career training programs are aimed at providing educational and skill development that will allow an individual to pursue a successful career upon completion. Courses are mix of traditional and practical settings, providing theory as well as practice in regards to the types of activities and skills necessary in order to be considered for employment. Programs typically take two years to complete, though some may have shorter durations, such as six, nine or twelve months. Upon completion students will receive a certificate or degree that demonstrates competency and assists in the procurement of employment by bolstering employer conference.
Admissions and Financial Aid
San Bernardino Valley College is a public, two year open enrollment institution dedicated to providing opportunities for all interested residents in its service area. Individuals wishing to enroll must complete an application for admission, provide any previous transcripts and standardized test scores, as well as pay all accrued fees. Students may be required to take a placement exam prior to registration, and are also encouraged to meet with a counselor and participate in orientation prior to their first registration.
