History
Schenectady County Community College was established in 1967 in Schenectady, New York. Initially located on the Van Curler hotel in downtown Schenectady, the school began to expand in 1978, adding more buildings, an auditorium, library and student center and more since. Currently there are plans to provide a student dormitory. The school is constantly reviewing and updating its curriculums and program offerings to reflect the needs of the community and its residents.
Academics
SCCC provides educational programs for transfer, career and personal growth. The school provides quality education with a focus on working closely with students, following their progress and assisting them in their choices. The school offers associate and certificate programs in a large number of fields. Career and technical programs provide students with the skills and experience necessary to perform duties and tasks in entry level positions related to their field of study professionally, and are capable of entering the workforce immediately after graduation. Academic programs prepare students for transfer to a four year institution by providing the freshman and sophomore years of a bachelor's degree at low cost. Individuals may also take non credit courses to pursue personal interests.

SCCC is an open enrollment institution, offering enrollment to any resident of Schenectady County that meets the minimum requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent. Financial aid is available to students. Eligibility is determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which should be completed and submitted. Athletics
SCCC participates in the NCJAA Region III and the Mountain Valley Conference. Intercollegiate athletic programs allow for a healthy atmosphere of competition between various schools and assist in educating participants in the value of teamwork and discipline, which may prove beneficial in a student's academic and professional career.
